Shearwater Health Partners with Sapang Uwak Elementary and High School to Empower Education

Porac, Pampanga, July 4, 2023 – Shearwater Health, a leading healthcare solutions provider, reaffirms its commitment to corporate social responsibility through its employee interest group, Service to Others. In support of this effort, Shearwater Health has selected Sapang Uwak Elementary and High School as the beneficiary of their recent outreach activity. Dedicated employees, including their Leadership Team, volunteered their time to engage with the students, fostering a spirit of collaboration and empowerment.

As part of an internal fundraising event, the 500,000 Steps Challenge for A Cause was launched in April 2023 in celebration of National Walking Day. Employees actively embraced the challenge, where every 5,000 steps recorded by the top teams with the greatest number of steps translated into a PHP100 donation towards their chosen community. The response was overwhelming, with a remarkable number of participants exceeding the initial goal, collectively accumulating an impressive total of 1,829,520 steps, equivalent to a donation of PHP 36,590.40.

Shearwater Health has selected Sapang Uwak Elementary and High School, located in the vicinity of its upcoming office in Porac, Pampanga, to channel its contribution toward fostering educational empowerment.

The team of Shearwater Health volunteers were welcomed by Sapang Uwak High School Principal Emmanuel Gomez and Elementary School OIC Betsy Lozano along with Aeta Women’s Cooperative Community Coordinator at Peace Kamp Analyn Santiago. The outreach activity commenced with informative sessions on proper hygiene by Shearwater Health Nurses, emphasizing the importance of handwashing. Subsequently, all attendees, including the students and dedicated volunteers, gathered for a shared lunch and showcased their talents through captivating performances.

During the event, Marife Andres, Sapang Uwak High School English Teacher, opened the program which was followed by fun and educational games for the students hosted by the volunteers. Culminating the program was the donation of essential items to benefit the Sapang Uwak Elementary and High School community that included raincoats and dental kits which were bought from the funds raised during the 500,000 Steps Challenge. Vitamins and supplements were also provided in collaboration with Shearwater Health’s HMO partner, Etiqa. Moreover, new school supplies like crayons, pencils, pad papers and ball pens, children’s toys, reading books, and clothes contributed by employees during an internal donation drive were also given to further enhance the experience for the students.
