Shearwater Health Joins PONA on their 30th Founding Anniversary and National Convention

Makati City, Metro Manila, January 27, 2023 — The Philippine Oncology Nurses’ Association, Inc. (PONA), a non-stock, non-profit organization composed of nurses involved in or interested in the care of cancer patients and their families, celebrated their 30th Founding Anniversary and National Convention with the theme “Reaching New Heights Towards Building a Sustainable Evidence-based and Resilient Oncology Nursing Practice” last January 26-27, 2023.

The two-day event was held via Zoom and Makati Diamond Residences respectively with oncology nurses, academicians, administrators, and other allied health professionals in attendance. The sessions were led by renowned professionals in the industry and centered on the roles of oncology nurses in research, training and education, and safe and quality care to cancer patients.

In the Philippines, 189 of every 100,000 Filipinos are affected by cancer, with four Filipinos dying of cancer every hour or 96 cancer patients every day. This is according to a study undertaken by the University of the Philippines' Institute of Human Genetics, National Institutes of Health. (Republic of the Philippines: National Nutrition Council, 2022).
